Telus Donates Digital Mammography Machine to Ottawa Hospital

The telecommunications provider Telus has donated a digital mammography machine to the Ottawa Hospital’s Riverside Campus as a part of the Telus Go Pink campaign. Telus has been a long-time supporter of charities that advance cancer research, awareness and detection. The new machine will replace the 30 year old technology at the hospital.

The new technology is more effective and would help in early detection of the disease as it will provide clear images of the diagnosis. The digital machines would penetrate dense breast tissue to detect smaller tumors earlier. The new technology would allow the doctors to see an extra patient every hour. The new technology would improve the survival rate of patients.

The traditional detecting tools do not penetrate dense breast tissue which makes it difficult to detect the tumor.

The purchase of pink Telus Blackberry smart phones between May and December, last year raised $100,000 to help pay for the device. $25 from each phone has contributed to these funds. The campaign has raised more than $2.45 million for women's breast health across Canada.
