Employment Rate in Houston Improves

Following the economic meltdown over the past few years, it seems that the Houston area has had a remarkably decent year in 2010. The report came after the Texas Workforce Commission released its annual workforce figures for the year 2010, on Thursday.

According the information provided by the commission, it was reported that employers in the area hired thousands of more people. The numbers have been quite encouraging and have been able to beat all expectations.

It needs to be pointed out that the agency carries out a comparison of payroll reports for its monthly estimate on the number of jobs lost and gained over the year. It was found by the commission that the Houston area had seen employers hiring 46,300 new people between December 2009 and December 2010.

Talking about the latest statistics, Professor Emeritus of Economic, University of Houston, Barton Smith, said that the report showed that the number of new recruits were a lot more than previously thought. Apart from that, it also pointed out that the economy in Houston was faring much better than the forecasts.

It was further reported by the commission that the unemployment rate came down from the previous 8.8% in January 2010 to 8.3% in December 2010.
