In what seems an aftereffect of the Jasmine revolution, protesters in the eastern city of al-Ahas, of Saudi Arabia came out in droves to protest against the imprisonment of innocent people without any reason. According to estimates, the protests witnessed the participation of 500 people, a large number of protestors included Shiite Muslims.
President of the Human Rights First Society, al-Mugaiteeb, said that the government should release the people who have been put behind bars without any rhyme or reason. He added that such people were not even facing any legal charges.
He further informed that there was no violence during the protest.
Meanwhile, there were no protests in the capital city of Riyadh, as the protests planned for the day did not materialize. However, a number of police units could be seen at the place of crime. It needs to be remembered that Facebook pages had already called for widespread protests to demand for new political reforms.
The protests come at a time when the Saudi Arabia government has taken stern action on people protesting; it has banned protests and had arrested hundreds of people protesting against the harsh stance of the government.
