Neil Forrest Put Behind Bars for Centrelink Fraud

Trevor Neil Forrest of Watheroo has been put behind bars for fraudulently collecting more than $100,000 in Centrelink payments with the help of a false identity to make a claim of payments.

Welcoming the sentence, experts said that he would be eligible for parole in just over two years.

It was told to the Perth District Court that the man claimed Centrelink payments in the name of Jesse Samuel Jacobs while also receiving payments under his real name.

According to the judge Ronald Birmingham, Forrest had a long history of using false identities and had been motivated solely by greed.

Earlier in 2006, he was sentenced to a three-year jail term for helping conceal the murder of Lee Anthony Maunsell.

Speaking against any of such fraud acts in the society, General Manager Hank Jorgen said that it was important to make the point that when you were ripping off Centrelink, you were ripping off the taxpayer and that's where people had really strong objections.

In addition, he said, “The message is clear. Those who rout the system will be caught and face the possibility of jail time and, of course, paying back the debt”.
