Sources have claimed that AOL has cut jobs for 900 employees around the globe. This constitutes 20 percent of its staff. India has got the maximum share of 400 job cuts according to several sources.
The job cuts were due to pruning staff from AOL’s content sites. The sites were particularly the ones that overlapped with the Huffington Post website. The company has acquired $315 million from this company this week.
According to AOL, around 750 jobs from India were cut, which was mostly the back-end support. Around 300 of the people who lost their job from India have been offered jobs by the third party contractors across the regions. A person facing such a situation has claimed that the remaining people working in AOL should focus on developing applications and websites dedicated for Asia.
In its US office, reporters and editors who worked for its travel sites and business were hit. AOL has also cut its politics and news sites. People in this situation claimed that those who were hit by the job cut had started to pack up their belongings from the office on Thursday.
AOL executives have already signalled about the job cut weeks ago for reducing the overlapping between the two companies. This reduction in overlapping would save $20 million in operational costs.
