Vietnam News Agency (VNA) has recently quoted some experts as saying that there is an immediate need that Vietnam starts with some effective awareness strategies enabling people in the region to understand the aspects of the organ donation so that more people gain interest to become donors and become a part of this noble cause.
The Health Ministry has reported that approximately 300 organ transplants are performed every year in the country and still there are approximately 500,000 people nationwide, who need transplants of various kinds. Confirming the above report, Dr. Tran Ngoc Sinh of the Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City said that around 6,000 patients in Vietnam are suffering from chronic kidney failure, whereas 300,000 have lose their sight due to the diseases relating to the cornea.
Recently, a survey was conducted among 2,000 people in Vietnam to enquire about the willingness of people in the country to become the donors and it was found that more than 50 percent of people did not want to become donors, 35% percent agreed to become donors after their death and only 15% people agreed for organ donation upon any such need of help by the other people.
