As per the findings of a new study, published in the journal of the American Medical Association, the number of cigarette smokers has seen a significant plunge in the past few years across all over the US.
The study was initially conducted by a renowned anti-smoking researcher John Pierce from UC San Diego. In his study, he found that a major part of smokers, especially in California has voluntarily kicked the habit of smoking over the period of four decades i. e. from 1965 to 2007.
It has been unveiled by the findings of this investigation that where the California has recorded for a whopping plunge of 20.6%, the rest of the America has also shown significant dip of 15.7% in the total number of smokers.
Interestingly, the concept of ‘pack-day’ is also has a few takers today, with many have learnt to confine their daily fag to one or two cigarettes a day.
This change has come as a pleasant surprise for the health experts who have always accentuated on bidding adieu to smoking addiction.
It was previously reported that the US has a high lung cancer rate with 101.7 per 100,000 people.
Pierce said: "There's a California effect, across both initiation (of smoking) and cessation. The initiation rates are one-third to one-half the level in the rest of the country”.
