Talking on the cell phone while crossing the road can be dangerous for everyone. However it has been noticed in a new research that older people are at a bigger risk if they talk on cell phone while crossing the road.
The research was done at the University of Illinois. The researchers claimed that a person between the age of 59 years and 81 years is comparatively at more risk if they cross a road while talking on cell phone. It was seen that an older person was not able to focus on the safety required for crossing the road.
The researchers studied 18 people between the ages of 18 years to 26 years and another group of 18 older people. They made these people cross the road with basic distractions like listening to music or conversing on a hands-free cell phone. Then these people were asked to cross the road without any distraction. After studying the results from both the situations, the researchers came to this conclusion. It was also noticed that the older people had a probability of falling down while crossing the road. A younger person was more capable of performing well in multiple tasking.
As per the research, an older person should pay extra attention while crossing the road and avoid the usage of cell phone.
