Southwest Airlines Inc has announced its plans to launch service to Boston, completing its slate of New England airports. Before this the airlines had started service to Providence, R. I., Manchester, N. H., and Hartford, Conn. The Airlines was refraining from flying to crowded, congested Boston Logan International Airport.
Chief executive Gary Kelly remarked, "I am confident that Logan will be a great addition to our already strong presence in the New England area. We stand ready to offer this bustling region even more low-fare service and unbeatable Southwest Airlines customer service."
However, the airlines would fly less capacity in 2009 than in 2008. But the airlines has plans for creating capacity for three new cities this year by redeploying aircraft from unprofitable routes. Kelly revealed about the plan to the Globe saying that the airline would be shifting from unpopular routes to profitable markets.
