According to the state agency, the medical marijuana centres would be open in the summer. However, the regulations regarding their operations are yet to be finalized.
The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services have announced that there are six non-profit groups who have got the rights to commercially manufacture and sell medical marijuana. It was also mentioned that one of the groups wants to set up a shop in Burlington County.
Compassionate Sciences Inc. of Sea Cliff, N. Y., one of the non-profit organizations to get the deals, claimed to operate an alternative treatment centre in either Burlington or Camden County.
The other groups in the same field have planned to setup their centres across Bellmawr, Camden County, Manalapan, Monmouth County, Montclair, Essex County, New Brunswick, Middlesex County, and Secaucus, Hudson County.
6 out of 21 groups were selected for this entire process. Each one will have a single centre across the country. However, there are instances that these groups have applied for more than one location.
Richard Taney, CEO of Compassionate Sciences Inc., did not comment after the selection results was announced.
According to the state agency, the centres would be functioning by summer this year and the governing policies are yet to be finalized.
Patients having certain medical conditions are allowed to buy medical marijuana from these centres.
