A French bulldog, Tana, has captured the attention of people in Spain. As per reports, female Tana was brought for vaccination to a veterinary clinic when a male organ was observed by the specialists.
Surprised with the size of her clitoris, series of tests were conducted on her, which confirmed the first ever case of genetic alteration ever detected in the reproductive system of this breed.
Though such cases have been diagnosed on other species like goats, pigs, horses and even human beings, this was the first case of a female bulldog reported so far.
Responding to the study, Marcos Campos, lead author and a researcher at the CEU-Cardenal Herrera University, reportedly claimed, "She was a chromosomally XX female but with masculine gonads (cryptorchid testicles) due to the presence of other genes that determined the formation of testicles in the absence of the genes present on the Y chromosome”.
In order to root out any possibility of complication in the future, the team of specialists performed a surgery to remove her genitals.
Expressing opinion, Dr. Kit Kampschmidt, a Houston veterinarian, claimed that though there have been many such cases, this is for the first time that a case of sex reversal in French breed has been highlighted.
