General Motors has announced to resume the production at a Louisiana pickup truck plant. The announcement was made a week after the company was shut done due to shortage of parts from Japan. The plant in Shreveport, Louisiana was the first United States where the production was closed down as a result of earthquake and resulting tsunami. The G. M. plant employs 925 people.
The earthquake and tsunami had disturbed the operations of car factories across the world.
A spokesman of General Motors, Kim Carpenter, said that the company has enough material to operate and that why they have decided to resume the production. Ms. Carpenter added that they have decided to restart the plant because the company needs to fulfill the demands of its customers. She said that the company is evaluating the situation and making adjustments in the plants around the world as needed.
She also said that General Motors have enough of trucks in the inventory that it would take two months to sell them. G. M will continue to monitor the situation in Japan. G. M.’s North American operations would be fully operational as of Monday.
