Kids-friendly animation site Kerpoof acquired by Disney

According to Techcrunch reports, the one-of-its-kind creative website for kids, Kerpoof has been acquired by the Walt Disney Company. The takeover falls is in line with Disney's planned scheme of things - that is, to buy out small sites which are appear to be in sync with the products chiefly offered by the company.

There has been no word about the acquisition amount, but the deal will still allow Kerpoof to operate its online portal, kerpoof. com, even as the distinct technology would be soon available on the Disney homepage too.

Kerpoof's singular set of online art tools, which help the kids to make their animated and artistic pictures, are "mostly free." However, for the members subscribing to the site, there is a tiered-subscription policy - whereby the users can opt for monthly, half-yearly or yearly membership at the respective fees of $4.39, $24.79 and $44.79.

The easily accessible Kerpoof interface mostly helps kids create images from the site's huge assortment of clip art, the site also boasts of some 'smart' features, and various editing modes like e-cards, movies, pictures and story books.

For a company like Disney, Kerpoof is a good buy; more so as the unique Kerpoof technology is fundamentally based on images, and requires hardly any instructions - perfect for enhancing the kids' creativity of the kids, and extremely handy for art lessons!

Interesting beginning to kids content creation trend.

Nice to see a big media company paying attention to the trend to creative platforms and user-generated content sites for kids. Another interesting example is tikatok.com, a site where kids can write and publish their own books.

Like Kerpoof, this one is also based on similar fundamentals - text and image - so few instructions are necessary, although the site does offer writing prompts.

Of course, Disney also owns Club Penguin, a huge site for child gaming. Looks like they're coving their bases in the consumption/creation spectrum.
