Abhisit Gives Big Hopes and Promises before Elections

The Prime Minister of Thailand has promised to formulate policies which will help Thai families to cope with rising fuel and food costs which have posed a danger to the party before this year’s national elections.

Abhisit mentioned that he will be dissolving the Parliament six months before his term ends so that he could trigger an election. His Democratic party would be fighting from everywhere in the country except northeast.

Further explaining the main agenda of his party, he said, “The Democrat party aims to help put money in people’s pockets so that they can cope with rising prices. Families are struggling despite the economic recovery to keep up with prices, and it’s better to have a government with a fresh mandate to really tackle them”.

It was three months back when oil and food prices surged suddenly and Thailand’s central bank had to raise its interest rate for the second time in three months.

Supavud Saicheua, Managing Director of Phatra Securities Plc, Thailand’s second-biggest brokerage, said that higher oil prices, higher product prices, rising interest rates and several accusations of corruption have had a major affect on the popularity of this government.

In order to lure the population before elections, Abhisit has offered cash to elderly and he has also offered help to rural voters in dealing with loan sharks.
