A man from Afghanistan who was seeking for an asylum died in at the Curtin Immigration Detention Centre near Derby. The man was found dead on Monday, at about 6.16pm.
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has confirmed the death of the detainee at the Curtin centre. The DIAC says that the cause of the death in not known yet.
The Spokesman of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, Sandi Logan said that the West Australian Police will investigate the circumstances under which the man died. He said the DIAC will keep the identity of the man and the circumstances of his death, secret until his family has been informed.
The spokesman said that Counselors would be made available to help and support the detainees and staff of the Curtin Immigration Detention Centre.
The Spokesman of DIAC said that the staff of detainees and detention health services and the administering CPR at the on-site medical centre tried to threat the man but he had died already.
