Pros and Cons of Nook Wi-Fi
Pros and Cons of Nook Wi-Fi

Barnes & Noble has lowered the price of the Nook and added Wi-Fi capability to the device, resulting in a Nook Wi-Fi for the cost of $149. The new Nook Wi-Fi is a lot like the other version of the Nook, but without 3G capabilities for browsing the internet. There are a number of pros and cons surround this device, so it’s important to look over them before you make a purchase.

The cost is $149, which is only $10 more than the Kindle by Amazon, making it one of the most affordable e-readers on the market.

The Nook supports more file formats than the Kindle which uses AZW, which is proprietary of Amazon. The Nook supports EPUB, PDF and PDB files. While EPUB files allow publishers and book authors to digitally protect their content, having them on your Nook does not restrict you to library access solely through your e-reading device.

A dual screen format offers an electronic paper display on the top, and an LCD touch screen on the bottom with an Android interface that allows you to navigate through your library by touching and swiping and without using buttons.

On a Nook you can also borrow and lend books with your friends and you can surf the web at all Wi-Fi hotspots and Barnes & Noble stores.

The main con is the battery life, which lasts less than 10 days. The ink display is okay, but it isn’t the best, and surfing the net is slow.
