Retired U. S. Navy sonar experts have developed and validated a portable device based on submarine warfare technology. The device would be helpful in detecting, diagnosing and monitoring stroke. As the sonar differentiates whales from enemy vessels and other objects in seas, the device based on sonar will figure out cerebral abnormalities such as aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, ischemic strokes, and traumatic brain injury.
The device contains a headset, equipped with six highly sensitive accelerometers and portable laptop-based console which can detect and locate every type of stroke and brain trauma. The device can also detect the changes in a patient's condition. The device can help the doctors in saving the lives of thousands of patients.
Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Brain stroke affects a large number of people in the country. It is a condition when a blood clot blocks an artery or blood vessel breaks, which interrupts the blood flow to an area of the brain.
The headset sensors are the device measure the movement of brain's machinations and irregular blood flow. The device would be ideal for use where CT scanners are not readily available such as emergency care and ambulances and military battlefields and sports fields.
