The United Nations has appealed for a massive international drive to eradicate the scar of HIV/AIDS from countries, all over the world. As 30th anniversary of the war on HIV/AIDS is coming close, eminent dignitaries of many counties have echoed for effective strategies to combat the potential threat of HIV/AIDS.
Expressing concern over the dithering situation in many South Asian countries, UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon claimed that the scar of HIV/AIDS has not left even a single country of the world and further appealed for a collaborative effort to erase the blotch of HIV infection from the world.
If statistics are to be believed, over 60 million people are infected from HIV and further 25 million people have lost their lives due to HIV/AIDS.
With more and more people getting under the high-risk category ever year, Ban has shared ways and means to achieve target as set on last December 1 on World AIDS Day, of "zero new infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS-related deaths" by 2015.
Though the epidemic rates in HIV/AIDS dropped by over 25% in India, Nepal and Thailand, a significant increase of epidemic rate was observed in Bangladesh and Philippines. Moreover, the UN meeting has highlighted the issue of channelizing the expensive anti-retroviral treatments.
