Some questions still need to be answered, Facebook!

Some important questions have come upon after the recent hullaballoo associated with Facebook's terms of service. Yes, there are some questions that still need to be answered.

The questions, such as "when people post any personal information on a social networking site; does it become the property of the social networking site? Does it give absolute right to a social networking site to use and control the content that may include the personal information of its users?

Who should own that content? Who should control that content?

Well, these questions are debatable. These are the questions that gave birth to a big controversy, when Facebook, issuing new terms of service tried to keep more rights on content for themselves.

If Facebook had not backed off, the new terms would have given the site a "perpetual right to use and control any material uploaded on the site - even if the user had long since deleted the content or even deleted the account".

The new terms were strongly opposed. The critics of the new terms created a Facebook group, "People Against the new Terms of Service" to oppose the new terms. The number of opposers crossed 88,000 on Wednesday. The opposers advocated that the new terms would give the company comprehensive rights to use and control the material uploaded on the site. The Electronic Privacy Information Centre came up to file a legal complaint against Facebook. The EPIC president Marc Rotenberg said, "This row underlines the need for comprehensive privacy laws."

Seeing the strong opposite reaction from its users, Facebook had to back off just a few days after it announced new terms. Facebook has backed off, but the above-mentioned questions still need to be answered.
