Pinch Media Survey: Most users abandon free applications downloaded from Apple’s App Store

It's disappointing fact for Apple that the majority of people stop using the free iPhone applications downloaded from its App Store after the first day. The fact was brought out by a survey by Pinch Media, which provides analytical reports on iPhone applications to developers.

On Wednesday, Pinch Media presented the findings of its survey on app use at the New York iPhone Developers Meetup. The survey findings were based on the 30 million downloads that the surveyor monitored for its study.

According to Pinch Media, most of people stop using the free applications downloaded from Apple's App Store, the next day; just 20 percent people who download a free application from Apple's App store use the application the next day.

However, the survey found that nearly 30% of the people, who buy iPhone application from Apple's App Store, actually use the applications after the day they were downloaded.

The Pinch Media survey signaled that iPhone developers' applications need to hold users for longer periods. The survey found that the sports related applications are good for holding the users for the short term, while the games are best to hold them for the long term.

The survey articulated that the paid method is beneficial for the developers considering ad-supported applications. In the survey, the Pinch Media said, "Unless there's something inherent about the app that screams free, sell it." The surveyor reckons that less than 5% of applications are suitable for advertising.
