Canadian Twitter users have some good news coming their way - the company is restoring its November-ended support for inbound SMS text messages updates! And, the support will now extend to even a Bell Mobility subscription!
On the company blog, Biz Stone, Twitter's co-founder, said that the turnaround of decision came largely due to Bell's "enthusiasm and eagerness to make this happen." The turn back deal was negotiated by Kevin Thau, Twitter's recently-appointed director of mobile business development.
Thau probably realized that for a number of Twitter users, the SMS was an important part of the company's service. Lately Thau informed Forbes that, during the past year, text messages going via the Twitter SMS systems had figuratively increased by 1,000 percent.
It is not just in Canada that Twitter's SMS service is marking a comeback; Thau is currently in Europe, working out deals for restoring the feature there too - and a restored support for Australia also appears to be in the offing!
For the present moment, the U. S. and Canada are the only two countries with both inbound and outbound SMS support for Twitter. Though users in other parts of the world can also avail the option of updating their Twitter status via SMS, the obnoxiously-high costs are a limiting factor with respect to sending those updates via SMS to all such users!
