Leading banks; Barclays Plc, Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc and Lloyds Banking Group Plc have lifted up the U. K. stocks. Barclays rose by 3.6% and closed at 287.5 pence. Royal Bank of Scotland notched up by 3% to 42 pence and Lloyds Banking Group rose by 2.1% and closed at 59.3 pence. Country’s biggest lender, Bank of Ireland Plc rose by 33% after it was ordered to raise 5.2 billion Euros as an additional capital.
With the advancement in U. K. stocks the FTSE 100 Index elevated by 0.7% and closed at 5,951.94 in London. The FTSE All-Share Index (ASX) notched up by 0.6% whereas the Ireland’s ISEQ Index increased by 0.9%.
Bank of Ireland has indicated that it will raise money through capital-management initiatives. The Finance Minister of Ireland, Michael Noonan, said that the lenders are expected to share some of their recapitalization costs with subordinated shareholders. Four biggest lenders in the country are ordered to raise a total of 24 billion Euros. In order to come over the Europe’s worst banking crisis, the Finance Minister has decided to merge tow of them.
