Americans deadline for tax payment was quite late. Since the usual deadline date April 15 coincided with a District of Columbia holiday, 2010 tax payments are due on Monday, April 18. It has been told by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that the deadline for those with six-month filling extensions is October 17.
The nation's capital will be celebrating Emancipation Day on Friday the 15th April that is marked with the anniversary of the day when Abraham Lincoln signed an act to free thousands of slaves in the District of Columbia, in 1862. 16th and 17th are weakened therefore the deadline for tax payment falls on 18th of April.
The IRS told that by law District of Columbia holidays impact the tax deadlines in the same way that federal holidays do said earlier this year therefore, all taxpayers will be having three extra days to file.
The shift in the income tax deadline will also give taxpayers an extra time to make a tax-deductible contribution to an IRA (individual retirement arrangement) account, attributable to the 2010 tax year.
Almost all states are following the federal except few and these includes, Tennessee, Maine and Massachusetts, Hawaii, Delaware, Iowa, Virginia, and Louisiana.
