No Threat of Lead

Local importers believe that there is no threat of the spreading of lead in porcelain and ceramic tableware in Singapore after there has been a scare in US regarding the spreading of lead from crockery.

According to Strait Times, it was reported that local importers checked on the products to ensure that high lead content porcelain crockery does not land in their own country. They also ensured that the crockery does not contain lead as they are manufactured by reputed companies.

Recent reports claimed that ceramic tableware which was imported from China and Mexico contained high lead content. China, Philippines, and Thailand are the top three places which deliver tableware to the rest of the globe.

Lead is very harmful for human beings and causes various diseases such as kidney failure, male infertility, and miscarriages. This report has been confirmed by Dr Wong Seng Weng, medical director of The Cancer Centre.

Lead poisoning includes symptoms like abdominal pain, constipation, headaches, lethargy, poor appetite, and behavioural changes and it also causes low sperm count in male semen.

He also quoted that lead poisoning causes deaths in case of children and also causes physical disabilities, and coma.

Porcelain is used in hotels as it can be used in microwave ovens and it can handle high heat thus lead poisoning can spread very rapidly if poor quality crockery is used.
