If rumors are to be believed, Microsoft has almost worked out a more than $35 million acquisition of 3DV systems, which would mark Microsoft’s venture into the next-generation user interface scuffle.
Not only would the supposedly-materializing deal between Microsoft and 3DV Systems bear a discernible affect on the prospects of a video game console combat, it would also, in all probability, involve the future of gesture controls for TV as well as the PC.
Though it is almost certain that Microsoft will step into the gesture controls for motion detection, the company has to carefully plan the right moment for launching the technology, along with picking the right technology.
So far as the game console arena is concerned, Microsoft would have the option of either using 3DV Systems’ technology in a new game with a gesture-control accessory, or bring into play the 3DV technology into a spanking new video game console. Preferably, Microsoft could even wait a few years till it is ready to launch the new gesture-control technology with a new game console.
In case the company decides to use the technology in a new game that has a gesture-control accessory, Microsoft could, in a very short span, come up with something competitive with the Wii for use with the existing Xbox 360 or the PC!
