Anonymous Donations Not Allowed

According to a new bill that has been launched, the anonymous donations shall be stooped in favor of the Isle of Man elections that are being generated through the House of Keys.

The first reading in the House of Keys by representation of the People was on roll on the 5th of April.

According to the new provision announced, all donations above the limit of £50 would need to come with a name on them.

According to Tony Brown, the Chief Minister, this is an essential step in order to increase the levels of transparency and to make the people believe more in the government’s process for the elections.

He was also of the view that the possibilities of the bill that had been earlier been proposed, may have been fewer than the ones that they had originally thought of.

As per the bill, the extent of spending in the campaigns can be a maximum of £2,000. There can a further addition of 50p for each individual voter as a part of the constituency.

He also said, "For the first time in my memory, a public debate emerged about the source of election funding which discussed the apparent limitation of the legal framework in terms of transparency of donations and expenditure incurred by candidates themselves or on their behalf".
