Researchers Searching for New Ways to Diagnose Schizophrenia

For establishing a theoretical basis for the development of a clinical test of the disease named schizophrenia, the researchers from Technical Research Center of Finland and Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare have conducted a joint research and they have revealed that this disease is specifically associated with metabolic abnormalities; however this is something conflicted to other psychotic disorders.

According to the reports, the Finnish researchers aiming to produce profiles of the serum metabolites linked with schizophrenia and other psychoses have applied metabolomics, which is known as a high-throughput method for detecting small metabolites.

According to their analysis, schizophrenia is deeply associated with elevated serum levels of specific triglycerides, indication of hyperinsulinemia, and also rise of the serum amino acid proline.

Schizophrenia is known as a chronic and severe psychotic disorder and for diagnosing this disorder presently there does not exists any clinical test in the world. But with the help of this study, researchers believed to develop the same. If this succeeds then in coming future diagnosis for schizophrenia would be done in a more scientific and accurate way.
