Unveiling a hard truth that will not get washed down well with the majority, a team of researchers has accentuated that the differences in the facial structure and features between two genders is slowly fading away.
The findings of the study that have been derived after a thorough analysis of the numerous Spanish and Portuguese skulls indicate that the distinctions toady are not as evident as they were few centuries back.
In addition, it was also found that not only the distinctions between the males and females are blurring away, but there are also some significant discrepancies observed in the facial structure of the females today as compared to what it was previously.
It is reported that some 50 skulls from 20th century Portugal and over 200 skulls dating back to 20th and 16th century Spain have been studied extensively for the research purposes.
In this context, the lead investigator of the study, Ann Ross asserted: "Improving our understanding of the craniofacial features of regional groups can help us learn more from skeletal remains, or even help us identify an individual based on his or her remains”.
He added that with the advanced knowledge in the skull gender determination, a lot can be learnt about history and many criminal investigations can be accomplished as well.
