Slumdog Millionaire definitely did steal the 81st Academy Awards’ show that was organized on February 22, at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
Winning 8 Oscars, Danny Boyle's magnum opus became the 4th film, along with Gandhi, to win the highest number of Oscar awards.
Slumdog Millionaire, which features the story of an 18-year-old boy from rags-to-riches, grabbed 8 Oscars out of the 10 categories it was nominated for.
The film won the Best Film award, and it also won the Best Director for Danny Boyle. It won two Oscar awards for composer AR Rahman, for Best Original score and Best Original song, ‘Jai Ho’.
Rahman shared the Best Song award with renowned lyricist Gulzar. The film also won awards for Film Editing, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, and Best Sound Mixing.
Besides, the awards for Best Actor and Best Actress were won by Sean Penn and Kate Winslet for their films “Milk” and “The Reader” respectively.
Actor Health Ledger was posthumously honored with the Best Supporting Actor award for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight.
Penelope Cruz won the Best Supporting actress award for Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
