In the wake of Emancipation Day, a little-known Washington D.C. holiday that celebrates the freeing of slaves in the district, tax-payers have got extra three days to file their forms.
April 15 is known as the deadline for the filing the taxes but now it has got extended to April 18.
Generally, Emancipation Day falls on April 16 but it is observed in D.C. on April 15 and that it is because IRS was prompted to extend the tax filing deadline to April 18 this year. According to tax codes, filing deadline cannot be on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.
Another provision regarding the filing of taxes suggests that if someone cannot file the forms on these three extra days, one can always file for a six-month extension by submitting Form 4868.
The Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants has issued a link on their website which provides guidelines and tips regarding current Tax Scams. It also provides information on filing Federal forms electronically and preparing forms electronically.
If someone wants to talk in person about any issues regarding taxpaying then a link has been provided through which one can visit their office which is open from Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
