Former Soldier Colin Atkinson Maybe Sacked for Putting a Palm Cross

The 64-year-old grandfather and former soldier, Colin Atkinson refused to take down the 8inches cross made from woven palm leaves, that he placed at the dashboard of his van, which his employers view as offensive and could suggest that the organization is Christian.

However, he has been summoned to attend a full gross misconduct hearing next month that may lead to the end of his appointment with Wakefield and District Housing.

Though he had not received any complaint throughout this time at work about the dashboard, his bosses at a publicly funded Wakefield and District Housing in West Yorkshire, the fifth-biggest housing organization, ordered the removal of the cross as it could be offensive or lead to misconceptions about the organization.

The association has been reported to strongly promote inclusive policies that allow employees to wear religious symbols at work, also provided stalls at gay pride events and hosted events titled A Word That Includes Transpeople.

Mr. Atkinson, who has no tainted records, has stated he is not being shown the same respect and referred to the treatment of Christians in the country as diabolical.

Moreover, he is said to be facing the same plight as other Christians who have been affected by the introduction of controversial equality laws that has limited their religious freedom.

Campaigners have  accused the housing association of ‘remarkable intolerance’ at a time when millions of Christians will be celebrating Palm Sunday, as palms will be distributed to mark Christ’s triumphal entrance into Jerusalem.
