Clearing the clouds over the sale of Pinewood Shepperton studios, the former owner of Harrods department store, Mohamed al Fayed disclosed his interest in buying the hub of the James Bond and Harry Potter films.
Responding to the news, a Spokesman for Mr. Fayed, who co-funded the Oscar-winning film Chariots of Fire in 1981, claimed, "Mr. Fayed confirms he is considering making an all cash offer for Pinewood. There can be no certainty that an offer will be forthcoming".
Moreover, Pinewood has reportedly claimed that it had received a £87.8million offer from its largest shareholder, Peel Holdings Ltd. As per sources, Peel has 30% shares and investment fund Crystal Amber carries 28% shares of the Pinewood.
In addition, the company is keen on investing in some small-budget British films to grab instant profit as ‘The King's Speech’ produced massive profit to its stakeholders, though being a low budget project.
This is not the first time that Mr. Al Fayed had done any cross-over investment. As per reports, Mr. Fayed had purchased a studio in Egypt and further, lent money to the Oscar-winning 1981 film ‘Chariots of Fire’.
The popular company is reportedly mulling a full fledge plan to expand its existing studios in Buckinghamshire to produce fierce competition to its Hollywood competitors.
