It has been two years since I have been going by my rounds of surgery, chemotherapy and various drugs to make me feel better. The last round of chemo happened last Friday. I did not initially tell my loved ones that I had cancer but had to when doctor told me that I was going to die soon.
Doctor diagnosed me with bowel cancer but said it might not be fatal and this made me take things easy and I kept them to me.
It was in September 2010 that mu surgeon informed me about the cancer passing onto the liver making it a case of secondary liver cancer and with that survival chances too came down.
I also found that 96 per cent people who have secondary liver cancer die within five years with most not surviving the first year.
But I have been fortunate to have sailed through my treatment as I was positive and did not pay much attention to my symptoms to live as long as possible and here I am all hale and hearty.
There are chances of me being alive in five years time and that too about 50 per cent and I am hopeful that I will survive. The credit goes to our public health system. These people need appreciation for what they do but all they get is criticism from politicians.
