TomTom rejects Microsoft’s patent infringement allegations

The Dutch navigations solutions company TomTom NV sounds utterly unmoved by Microsoft's patent infringement allegations. The largest maker of car-navigation devices in Europe, TomTom has today rejected all Microsoft's allegations that it has infringed on eight of its patents.

On Wednesday, Microsoft had announced that it had filed patent-infringement case against the Dutch company, with the International Trade Commission and in a federal court for the Western District of Washington in the United States.

In the complaint filed in U. S. court, Microsoft stated that it first notified TomTom in June 2008 that the latter was infringing on eight of its patents.

The Redmond, Washington based software giant stated that it was seeking unspecified damages and a permanent injunction, but it also stated that it "remains open to quickly resolving this situation with TomTom through an intellectual-property licensing agreement." However, TomTom spokesperson Taco Titulare today stated that "TomTom rejects the Microsoft claims and that the firm will vigorously defend itself".
