There has been a reduction in the price of an AIDS drug called Kaletra by the manufacturing company Abbott.
This has been done as a special privilege for a select group of customers. This announcement was made in an annual meeting of the firm’s shareholders. This has been done as part of the program started for the aid of those low income group people who unfortunately get infected with this disease.
The eligibility to enroll themselves in drug assistance programs has been cut short by the Illinois government. On the other hand, there are people who have lost their jobs and are now incapable of paying their bills for the AIDS drugs; this has resulted in incursion of applicants. There are many people who have come forward to avail this offer.
Abbott was of the view that the price of most of the drugs has been decreased. It shall itself pay for the price of these drugs up to 8%. “Globally, we know that it is quite a serious problem. And we know that one in every three new infections is attributable to injecting drug use”, said CSIS team member Lisa Carty.
“What we’re seeing happen on a parallel track is that in many countries, where the new HIV incidence is starting to stabilize and level off, that the proportion of IDU-related infections is continuing to increase”, she added further.
