State Cancels Delaware County Nursing-Care Facility's License

The Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare has canceled the operating license of Delaware County nursing-care facility after the reports of repeated cases of abuse. There workers of the nursing home who were found guilty of the misconduct were arrested by the police.

Tyrina Griffin, 21, and Ayesha Muhammad, 19, both of Philadelphia, and Samirah Traynham, 22, of Yeadon, were accused of assault, criminal conspiracy, harassment, negligence of a care-dependent person, and related crimes.

A Spokesman of Department of Public Welfare said that inquiry into the matter is still going on. A number of people have filed complaints against the nursing home in the in the past few months.

The three victims were found guilty of a taunting and physically abusing a 78-year-old dementia patient, Lois McCallister for about 12 minutes. They also blocked her door when she tried to escape.

Her relatives complained about the incident to the police, they did not pay attention to it, thinking that it was because of her dementia. Her relatives then installed a hidden camera in her room as a clock and showed the video to Haverford police.
