Pauline Talty finally succumbed to death on Friday at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre after a 19-month battle for life as she underwent a bowel transplant hoping that might help her.
Her mother Linda Sutcliffe has always been with her since June 2009 when they came to Pittsburgh for the life-saving treatment.
An email was sent by Mrs. Sutcliffe yesterday on behalf of Pauline's sisters Amber and Kristy and nephew Jamie which stated that Ms. Talty had died of medical complications caused by pneumonia.
The letter further stated that not only she fought to maintain her health but she was also fighting Federal Government red tape to get accepted under Medicare's overseas treatment program after she came to know that she had only few months to live if she did not undergo a bowel transplant which was not available in Australia at that time.
Though she spent virtually 18 months in hospital being fed through a tube, but at the same time she was waging her campaign with mobile feeding system in a back pack to appear at fundraisers held to raise funds for her trip.
Before leaving for US, she said, "We couldn't have done it without the wonderful support of the community. They have made my dream of a life a reality. Thank you from the bottom of my heart".
