It has been analyzed by one of the city analysts that the pub chain, JD Wetherspoons’ sales in the first 13 weeks of 2011 are smartly raising; these have been estimated as 7.4% which means a quite delightful pace for most of the retailers.
But then on the same time, it is not the case with sales of Greene King.
The Chairman of this chain, Tim Martin started his pub business in 1979 and at that time targeted to build a strong empire of 1600 pubs. By now, he has reached halfway; yes recently 'Spoons has opened its 800th pub, which according to him is a saturation point. And it is expecting to open around 50 more pubs in this year.
With an aim to boost up the value of his shareholders, since long time, Wetherspoons has been buying his own shares, which are worth 7.6 million at a cost of £32.6 million.
Continuing to wrestle with the austere economic climate, Wetherspoons said: "in common with many businesses, [it] continues to be faced with rising costs for a wide range of goods and services, combined with a reduction in disposable income for many of its customers".
