Rebuffing the recent report published in a Korean newspaper - and republished in prestigious online tech websites - LG denied any plans to pull out of the Plasma TV market. In an exclusive conversation, George Mead, LG Electronics UK's Marketing Manager for Digital Displays, told T3 that LG had "no intention to withdraw from the Plasma TV market."
The reaffirmation by LG Electronics UK and the reiteration of its commitment to the plasma business, believing it to be a significant sector in the flat panel display sector, contradicts the comment by the Vice President earlier in the week, that "if we cannot draw growth strategy, we would make the decision to withdraw within the year".
Though Mead talked of the changes taking place in the Plasma TVs market worldwide being discussed at the company's global headquarters, he said that LG Electronics UK has lately implemented a modified policy for endorsing and marketing Plasma TVs. Mead added: "The development of new technologies including our THX certification is a strong indication of the growth opportunities in the UK market."
However, it might just be possible that LG is planning something on the lines of what Philips' did last year for both their LCD and Plasma divisions - pull out of the Plasma market in the US, while still continue in the UK and Europe!
