Los Angeles - After taking a shot to the lip, Dwyane Wade gave the New York Knicks a shot to the gut.
A bloodied Wade scored 24 of his 46 points in a spectacular fourth quarter as the host Miami Heat rallied from a 16-point deficit for a 120-115 victory over the defenseless Knicks on Saturday night.
"It was one of our best wins of the year," Wade said.
"A punch in the stomach," said Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni, whose team has lost three in a row. "Just gut-wrenching."
Wade added 10 assists, eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks in his second eruption of the week. He scored a career-high 50 points in a loss at Orlando on Sunday and has reclaimed the league scoring lead from Cleveland's LeBron James.
The Heat were in a 102-86 hole before Wade began his barrage with two free throws with 9:26 to go. But the key moment came less than a minute later, when Wade was hit in the mouth by an elbow from Knicks rookie Danilo Gallinari of Italy, a blow that drew blood and later required three stitches.
"It was a simple game plan in the fourth quarter: Just get them to take a shot at Dwyane and make him bleed," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra joked.
No foul was called, and Miami coach Erik Spoelstra received a technical foul for arguing. After Nate Robinson's free throw, Wade took over.
"I thought when coach got the tech, that was really the turning point for our team," said Wade, who made 16-of-29 shots and 12-of-12 free throws. "That showed me a lot, sticking up for us."
The All-Star guard converted a three-point play and a three-pointer to get the deficit to single digits. Baskets by Jermaine O'Neal and rookie Mario Chalmers made it
103-98 before Wade sank a three-pointer, two free throws, a jumper and two more from the line, capping a 19-0 surge that gave Miami a 107-103 lead with 3:55 to play.
"When I'm angry, I attack," Wade said.
"We couldn't even put two guys on him to stop him," D'Antoni said. "At the same time we just quit making shots."
Another three-point play by Wade extended the margin to 112-107, but the Knicks fought back to tie it, 114-114, on a three-pointer by Larry Hughes with 1:19 remaining.
Wade gave the Heat the lead for good with a jumper with 1:04 left. After David Lee split two free throws, Wade drove for a dunk.
Robinson missed a potential tying three-pointer and Udonis Haslem sealed Miami's fourth win in six games with two foul shots.
O'Neal scored 18 points and Jamario Moon added 17 and 12 rebounds for the Heat, who committed just seven turnovers.
"A very, very good win," Haslem said. "We found out a lot about ourselves tonight."
Robinson scored 24 of his 29 points in the first half, Hughes and Chris Duhon added 19 apiece and Lee had 18 and 13 rebounds for the Knicks, who shot 16-of-34 from the arc.
