On Monday, Eli Lilly and Co. has been provided additional perspective in response to Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s lawsuit. Lilly has been previously alleged of not using commercially reasonable efforts to support the success of Byetta, an exenatide injection, and Bydureon, an extended-release for injectable suspension. Its hearing is being conducted in US court. The court has not yet announced its judgment regarding Amylin allegation on Eli Lilly.
Enrique Conterno, President of Lilly Diabetes said, "We emphatically reject the allegation that we did not meet our contractual obligations under the Lilly and Amylin alliance”. While defending the company, he said that Lilly has always remained fully committed to its obligations under its collaboration agreement with Amylin as well as to complying with all laws and regulations.
Meanwhile, Lilly has announced a global alliance agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim to equally develop and commercialize Tradjenta, which would compete directly with Amylin's products.
The Tradjenta and Byetta are prescription medicine which is used along with diet and exercise to lower blood sugar in adults with type -2 diabetes. The company is of the opinion that Lilly Diabetes' strategy will offer a large range of treatment options for complex diabetic cases.
