Who would have thought that marketing lobsters would become such serious business! Nevertheless, on Friday, federal and provincial ministers announced that government will spend nearly half a million dollars in joint funding on marketing Atlantic Canadian lobster.
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada will contribute $328,750 while Maritime provinces together contribute $126,250 towards maintenance of the region's presence in the United States and development of new markets in Europe and Asia.
This move comes in the wake of the economic downturn which caused a crash in prices hitting the fishermen and processors hard.
New Brunswick's Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet said that the funding will help consolidate marketing effort.
"Objectively, how can we work together, what can we do to overcome some of the hurdles that we're presently focused on right now," said Doucet.
Thus, we will now see a lot of consumer advertising promoting Canadian lobster as a unique delicacy.
