Asus announces its touchscreen smartphone “Asus P835”

It will be a Windows Mobile based smart phone with a 3.5-inch, WVGA (800 x 480) touchscreen display; that’s what the Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturer ASUS says about its recently announced “Asus P835”.

According to Asus, the Asus P835 offering large, high-resolution screen will be well equipped to compete with the phones, such as the HTC Touch HD and the upcoming HTC Touch Diamond2. The phone will feature a 5 megapixel auto focus camera. The phone’s size will be 115 mm X 59 mm X 13.8 mm, and its weight will be 148 g.

The Asus P835 will run on Windows Mobile 6.1 pro. It will also include a new version of Glide. The phone’s web browser capabilities will come from Opera Mobile. It will come with Microsoft's standard suite of productivity and entertainment software, including a version of Microsoft Office.

The P835 will be stuffed with a number of high-end features, such as the latest version of 3G high-speed wireless networking. It will be equipped with features including HSDPA and HSUPA. The support for the 3G standard HSPA means 7.2 Mbps wireless downloads and 2 Mbps uploads, under ideal conditions. The phone will come with an interesting application that will help the phone work as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot, sharing its HSPA connection with other computers. It will help to set the device as a Wi-Fi access point, sharing its HSDPA connection with the network for up to 10 users.

The P835 will offer 4GB of internal storage, which will be ample for the users looking to use the phone as audio/video player. What is more, the phone will offer also a microSD card slot that could increase its storage capacity to 34 GB. The P835 will use the 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7201A that is common in HTC products, and it will have 288 MB of RAM and 256 MB of ROM.

The P835 will be equipped with the 1100 mAh battery that will give it a standby time of 350 hours with 3G and 300 hours with 2G, or a talk time of 6 hours with 3G and 7 hours with 2G. Other features of the phone include A-GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and USB 2.0 support.

The P835 will be Asus' last own-brand PDA-phone. In future, the company will bring out its touchscreen-based cellular handhelds as Garmin-Asus devices in its partnership with Garmin, the personal navigation device manufacturer. Garmin-Asus have already announced two devices – nuvifone G60 and nuvifone M20.

Asus has not yet announced the price and launch date of the Asus P835. The mobile phone manufacturer has said that the Asus P835 will be available in Q2 in Asia Pacific. The phone’s prices in different countries will be announced near launch date of the phone.
