According to the news, it was revealed that there are some new viruses affecting horses and due to this, many events were cancelled. This virus is spreading among the horses as they touch each other or share a tack and by grooming equipments or even by food. However, humans are not prone to this threatening virus ‘equine herpes virus-1’.
This virus has affected nine horses in Colorado and 22 cases are suspected in other eight countries.
The College National Finals Rodeo is highly affected due to this virus attack on horses. Over 100 of colleges and over 700 horses participate in this rodeo.
Many safety precautions are taken by the organizers of this rodeo event so that these rodeo events are not affected. The rodeo has been scheduled on June 2-5.
On Tuesday, rodeo promoter Seth Doulton said, “We take it very seriously. We’ve been monitoring it for the last two weeks”.
It has been reported that this virus attack begun at the National Cutting Horse Association’s Western National Championships in Ogden, Utah, where about 400 horses participated from April 30 through May 8 and from that time, 18 horses in California, Canada and Western States have been diagnosed with this virus.
