Hooking on to computer gaming gadgets may escalate excruciating pain in finger joints and wrists, says a study. Probing the mind of 257 students of the age between 9 and 15 in two schools in St. Louis, with the help of a comprehensive questionnaire, the team came to conclusion that teens that remain confined to games like Gameboy or Xbox, extending to hours, are at higher risk of getting affected with pain in their hands.
In addition, the team has revealed that even mobile phone users, who spend long hours on texting, are further aggravating their health concerns. Moreover, girls were reported to be at almost twice the risk of getting pain as compared to boys.
Confirming the findings, Yusuf Yazici, a Rheumatology Professor at the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York claimed, "Our study has shown the negative impact that playing computer games and using mobile phones can have on the joints of young children, raising concerns about the health impact of modern technology later in life”.
As medical evidence produced, supporting the preliminary finding is limited; the team is of the opinion that more concrete steps are required in this field to reinforce the popular belief that technology is gradually deteriorating the quality of life.
