Eminent Republican and HP ex-CEO Carly Fiorina undergoes breast cancer surgery

The Associate Press Tuesday reported that Hewlett-Packard's ex-CEO and eminent Republican Carly Fiorina, 54, has undergone breast cancer surgery at Stanford University Hospital.

Deborah Bowker, Fiorina's chief of staff, informed the press that the Monday surgery was successful. Bowker added that Fiorina's chances of a complete recovery were being termed as "excellent" by the surgeons. However, Bowker refused to divulge on the details about Fiorina's post-surgery line of treatment.

It was on February 20 - a day prior to the Sacramento GOP conference, which she attended - that Fiorina, who resides in Los Altos Hills, California, was detected of the ailment. At the meeting, Fiorina had pushed for offering voters an activist agenda of lower taxes and less government.

Reiterating Fiorina's commitment to the political causes she supports, Bowker said: "She remains enthusiastically committed to a full range of activities and looks forward to her future choices with great optimism."

Republican Fiorina has not only worked as a top-notch executive, she has also penned a book, and was also a Fox Business Network commentator for a brief spell. Fiorina, who was an adviser to Senator John McCain's presidential campaign, is considered a 2010 hopeful for the seat held by California Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer.

Though Fiorina has refrained from making any announcement about her intention to run, Bowker said: "She's keeping her options open."
