Smoking a Growing Concern for Russia
Smoking a Growing Concern for Russia

World No Tobacco Day was celebrated in Moscow by offering lollipops in exchange of cigarettes in order to cajole chain smokers. Russia is the only country which has the highest smoking rates among all the developed nations. Recently, a number of women have raised the concern over growing menace of smoking as more and more women have entered the world of smoking.

Concerned over the escalating number of smokers in the country, the Russian Government has recently introduced cigarette packs with large warnings of health hazards. However, it is believed that this practice won’t help Russia as one pack costs only 40 rubles and smoking is allowed in almost all restaurants and bars.

A Russian health services expert has revealed that six out of 10 Russian men smoke which is equal to 21.7% of women, and the figure is constantly growing. The average Russian reaches for a cigarette pack 17 times each day. Therefore it is believed that it will take longer in Russia to encourage people to quit smoking.

Meanwhile, it has come to light that Australian Government is all set to pass a law of plain packaging of Tobacco with the hope that it will discourage people from buying it. Moreover, the packaging will also carry health warning with illustrative pictures on it.
