The Federal Government Reveals New Food Plate

In order to clearly communicate to the public on healthy eating, the federal government yesterday was reported to have revealed a new food plate, which will replace the food pyramid, which is referred to as complicated and confusing.

The new food plate is divided into four parts, with fruits and vegetables on one side, while protein and grains are on the other side, as there is a circle for dairy, which indicates that a glass of milk or pack of yogurt is at the right side of the plate.

Also, the plate is said to be plain and can be understood with ease, as well as it giving more attention to fruits and vegetables. Hence, it will significantly help individuals and families make healthier meal choices.

The President’s wife, Michelle Obama, who is said to be part of the “My Plate’’ initiative, which is part of her contribution in the prevention of childhood obesity, stated that “it’s important for parents to scan their children’s plates, as long as they’re half full of fruits and vegetables, and paired with lean proteins, whole grains, and low-fat dairy, we’re golden’’

Moreover, Walter Willett, Chairman of the nutrition department at the Harvard School of Public Health, stated that though it’s a good “step in the right direction with reasonable proportions’’, a detailed information is still not given to guide Americans.
