‘Weekend to End Breast Cancer’ Raises $1.8 Million

The Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Breast Cancer wrapped up its sixth annual event yesterday in Ottawa. This year, 950 participants took part in the 30 to 60km walk and raised $1.8 million. In the past six years the event has raised over $10 million.

The money raised will be going towards breast and gynecological cancer research, treatment and prevention.

Most of the walkers who participated were somehow affected by a women's cancer. Foundation President, Linda Egan, said the money raised will go towards a brand new survivorship center. Egan states: "We will be offering a level of care that doesn't exist right now. It will help people beyond the medical aspects of cancer-the family aspects, the people aspects, the emotional, and the anxiety".

Egan states that without the help of the community the event wouldn't have been so successful. Those who took part in this event are truly inspiring and taking the right steps in order to increase survivorship.
