The unveiling of the new “My Plate” will now replace the former food pyramid logo.
The USDA, along with First Lady Michelle Obama, spent a whooping $2 million for nutritionist and web designers to develop the new plate logo. Some are suggesting that it was a problem that most definitely could have been left unchanged.
Nutritionist criticized the food pyramid for not distinguishing between whole grains-which are good for you- and white flour-which is not so good. Sugary breakfasts and high-fat snacks qualified as foundational foods for the pyramid
The new plate is divided into four parts: grains, fruits, vegetables and protein. To the right of the plate shows a circle to represent dairy products.
Many are suggesting that the new campaign will not have much of an effect stopping obesity. Many also have suggested that nutritionist’s urge to change the logo was unnecessary since people often ignore the dietary information it provides.
It’s going to take more than a plate sectioned in four parts to decrease childhood obesity. America has taken drastic measure to reduce the rate of cigarette smoking, by advertising controls, high taxation and legal limits on where people can smoke Extreme measures also need to be taken for smoking too.
